Because she let him

by rachael   Feb 13, 2006

She hugged him close, not wanting to let go
he felt her warmth, her smooth sweet kiss,
he looked into her eyes, watching them glow.
her warmth would soon be gone, but thats not all that he would miss

he whispered in her ear, i love you.
she just turned and smiled
he hugged her again, and she still smiled. but only because because she knew
that he would have to wait, and that she wasnt afraid,
to make him wait a while

he said that he must go
and he turned to walk away
but she pulled him back and said no
and that he needed to stay

he said that hed see her tomarrow, and again theyd be together
she searched his eyes for a different answer, but found nothing new
he said hed always love her forever
and then he walked away, saying hed see her soon

and so he touched her hand for the very last time
she watched him walk away
as he turned, he whispered good-bye
but what she did not know, was that was the last thing he would say

she watched him climb into his blue sports car
she whispered, come back, it sounded so sincere
he waved back, not knowing he wouldnt go far
she longed for him to be near

she sat down on the ground, thinking about tomarrow
waiting for her dad to pick her up and take her home
not thinking about her soon to become sorrow
not thinking about being alone

the very next day she went over to his house, and knocked upon the door
it opened and they told her what she did not want to hear
she dropped down on the floor
now she knew that he would never be near

she remembered this like it was yesterday
longing for his soft sweet touch
and now she was at his grave
she needed him so much
and she knew that he could have been saved

she placed the rose that she held in her hand
down in the dirt next to his name
a tear slid down her cheek, she still didnt understand
that things would never be the same

she didnt understand that he wouldnt be coming back
as another tear slid down her cheek, now for real she knew
that things wouldnt be the same, that one special person she would lack
she kneeled down and whispered back,i love you too.

she loved him so much, and now hed never know
she missed him so much, now and a long time ago
she would never again feel his sweet, soft touch
because he would never again be alive
because she let go of her one true love
because she let him drink and drive.
