The long wait

by Emma   Feb 19, 2006

Across a crowded room she waited
thoughts of what would be
fidgeting with nerves and excitement
searching for what she couldnt see.

A moment in her head
she'd been goin over for years
waiting as long as it took
through happiness and tears.

She never thought she'd be this scared
what if it wasn't the same
what if it didn't sound right
when he called her by her name.

Worried of what he'd think of her
would he like her in the flesh
would he be turned off
when he found she was really a mess.

Tears sprung to her eyes
at the thought of being rejected
but she knew deep down he wouldn't
and that she'd never be neglected.

She continued to look around
and time slowly ticked by
when she raised her head
she was looking him in the eye.

He was stood about a meter away
as if too scared to approach her
they both stood still, just looking
until eventually he moved closer.

He raised his hand to shake hers
and she watched him joke around
pushed his hand away and hugged him
with her feet almost leaving the ground.

They both stood in the crowd
gripping filmly to each other
niether of them wanting to let go
for fear of there not being another.

Eventually they released their grips
and a smile spread across her face
finally she'd got her man
finally things fit into place.

Not a word was exchanged
for there wasn't a need
he simply took her hand
and she let him take the lead.
