Laughter danced
and tears rippled

of faces.
Buses
mumbled and moaned,
grumbled and groaned
as they went about their business
of transporting
life
from One Place to
The Next.
The streetlights preyed
on the
lonely
licking their lips
as they found
another unsuspecting victim
in the shadows.
The drone of a plane's engine overhead
became like a drum,
in time with my own
heartbeat
growing ever faint.
