Doom filled night

by Ashelin   Feb 23, 2006

The fog moved in
On those that wished to escape
It covered their tracks
As the doom of the night came upon them.

Sounds of angry beasts were heard
Like the hounds of hell, their howls rang.
Making the blood of the runners chill
At the thought of being caught

One stumbled and cried out, in fear and pain
But he was forgotten
As the others ran on through the night

He shivered and cried, he did not wish to die
He curled up on the cold, hard ground
His salty tears seeping down his cheeks

He could almost feel the fangs of the hounds in his flesh
He could imagine those fangs tearing him apart
No one would know of his death, except the hounds and their master

As his mind wandered around the thought of death
He did not notice the howling pass on
Sleep crept into his eyes and then into his body
Forcing him to rest, on that doom filled night.

If he had not fallen, and then slept on
He would have been captured, and then fed to the wolves
His luck had been true, even when his mind had not been
He would live for another day, and perhaps his luck would last to
