A photograph

A moment captured in time,
A moment shared when you were mine,
A photograph of you and me,
Of us together happily,

Blissful ignorance fuelled by love,
We thought that love would be enough,
But looking back it couldn't have been,
If only we'd known what others had seen,

That all these years later we'd be apart,
And you'd no longer have my heart,
Times shared now just memories,
Of what you and me used to be.

This photograph is all that's left,
Of a love that became bereft,
The edges curl while it burns,
As to ashes this photo turns.
