The Man

I would have loved to have met the man
That held your very hand
When you scraped your knee
And fell off your bike
I would have loved to have met the man that had compassion in his voice
When he told his friends his boy was growing up
I would have loved to have met the man who told of true love
Who smiled as you took your date to the prom
I would have loved to meet my lovers father
The man that made you who you are today
I would have loved to have met that man
But, As I look into your eyes I can see that man is in you
The man that you have become is somehow a part of him
And I realize something time can not erase
I have already met the man I so longed to meet
