Rain

by Brooke Mason   Mar 14, 2006

The rain is falling, and I am sitting.
I am allowing the rain to hit me,
not doing anything about it.
I am just sitting here, in the rain,
sensing those who are passing by.

No one ever stops to ask me,
"What are you doing, sitting in the rain?"
They do not ask. They know the answer.
They know how I will reply.
"I am waiting for someone."

The sun never shines where I'm sitting.
People are always walking past me.
I want to see who they are, but I do not look up.
The rain weighs my head down.
The rain keeps me from looking up.

Even my best friend continues to walk on,
she lets the rain hit her as well.
I do not get up to walk with her.
I sit here, like I always have been,
and watch her pass me by.

For a moment though, she stops to look back,
and I can tell that she is worried.
I do not look up, but I know she is looking.
She looks ahead, then back at me,
and continues to walk forward.

I sit here, in the rain, watching as
people I know and love pass me.
I do not care, because I cannot care.
I do not allow myself to look up, or to care.
I just sit here, in the rain, and wait.
I wait for somebody who is never
going to come. Never

I know exactly how you feel, so I love this poem. And the person you're waiting for WILL come, eventually......when you least expect it.
