A Fork

by Brittany   Mar 16, 2006

We've been together,
for such a long time,
holding on to each other,
we passed the months by.

But now things are changing,
we've hit a point in out life,
a path forks before us,
to the left or the right.

You want to lead me,
down the path about you,
I want to follow,
the path that is true.

You say you love me,
I say it too,
but I don't think I mean it,
as much as you do.

Confusion takes over,
I'm not sure what to do,
should I follow my heart?
Or merely follow you?

The options are simple,
yet it's so hard to decide,
I want to follow my heart,
and salvage my pride.

The road with you would be easy,
that isn't a lie,
but the road where we part,
is more practical in time.

So I'll swallow the tears,
put on a brave face,
kiss you goodbye,
and set my own pace.

I'll leave you there,
at that fork in our road,
determined to survive,
each on our own.
