The grunge princess

The ball was almost upon you, a gown you'd yet to find.

We'd been to several places, there was one hope left to try.

We visited the Bridal Suite, but you weren't in the mood.

For trying on countless dresses, you'd back out of this if you could.

Joy asked you what you liked; you stood & chewed your fingers.

Oh I don't know you sighed, as you glanced at all the hangers.

Black was what you wanted, of those there were very few.
All but one had been selected, by some other girls - PHEW!

Finally three were chosen, one Lilac, one red, one black.

Joy said to you come on then and took you round the back.

You tried each one reluctantly; get me out of here Oh please!

This isn't me, its Girlie; just give me back my jeans.

At last you'd made up your mind, the colour was exquisite.

It was a little on the large side & needed to be fitted.

We went back again on Thursday, to have it tucked & pinned.

I watched as the dress transformed you, you looked at me & grinned.

In no time at all it was ready, it only took a few days.

You tried it on & looked at me, we were both totally amazed.

It suited you completely; it was so incredibly perfect.

I couldn't believe my eyes, you in RED! Who'd have thought it?

The day of the ball arrived, it constantly rained & thundered.

That wasn't going to spoil it; your spirits were high & undampened.

Off to the hairdressers at three, I arrived as soon as I could.

Jacquie put your hair up in curlers; we laughed as you sat under the hood.

With a hair net over your head, bless your heart you looked like a muppet.

Foam circles to protect your ears, the end result would be worth it.

All the curlers were removed, Jacquie began the transformation.

From a baggy, straight haired Tom boy, to a spectacular creation.

Just over an hour later, it was finished & set into place.

Soft curls falling down your back, light waves shaping your face.

You were pleased with how you looked & got up happily.

Richard came to pick us up, looked around & said, Where is she?

I couldn't help feeling excited, when you went upstairs to get dressed.

You carefully did your makeup, trying hard not to make a mess.

I helped you into your dress & put on your silver necklace.

Into your strappy black sandals, around your wrist a bracelet.

To see you stood before me, so elegant & refined.
No words could ever express, just how I felt inside.

Filled with admiration, theres nothing I could falter.
