As She Grew

by LeAnNe   Jan 26, 2004

She wished that things could be like before.
Smiles...Laughter...Happiness once more.
Back when times were bright and fun.
Back when adventures were never done.
When that was life, nothing went wrong,
Never a time feeling like she didn't belong.
But as she grew, her views did change.
Her illusion of the world did rearrange.
People She once thought could do no harm,
Suddenly began to lose all of their charm.
The world took on a different face.
Lost its beauty, love and grace.
It became a world of pain and anger.
A place where people fear danger.
A place that holds cries of despair,
From those who know the world's unfair.
With this realization, something was lost.
A child's hope and innocence was the cost.
Maturing into the expanding world.
Where angry comments, and racism swirl.
Breaking hearts and wrecking dreams.
No one ever hearing the silent screams.
Coming from this child who's thoughts were new.
Changing and hurting as she grew.
But things won't be like they were before.
The world has changed, and is no more,
The world she knew, the world she loved.
Into the real world she's just been shoved.
