Maiden of Broken Hearts

by Rose and the Thorn   Apr 1, 2006

Beyond these black woods
lies a magnificent castle...
bathed in the light of the new moon,
untouched for decades still..
plants scale its never-ending walls,
rays of light to penetrate its dusty windows,
and the knob on the enormous door
is covered in the residue of age...
inside this castle, time stands still;
everything is as it was and will be...

in the highest room...
of the tallest tower..
there is a beautiful maiden
sprawled on the bed...
her ebony hair flows like a river
from her head to the floor...
her skin is pale, her lips cold,
and theres expression of sorrow on her lifeless face...
and the wreath of flowers that adorned her hair
is now dead and black..
it was here she awaited her prince charming
but it happened to be a case of mistaken identity...
she denied him nothing,
gave him the world...
he had his fun
now it was time to let her drown..
despite the tragedy he spun
she held him close to her heart
until her muscles tired and gave way...
he took her for all she had
then disposed of her when nothing remained
the saddened maiden was bound by a spell of depression
he had stolen her heart and made it bleed..
the only choice left now was to flee..

for years and years she lived in silence,
not knowing if she'd ever love again.
Secluded from everything in the walls of her castle,
she continued this way until the pain overwhelmed her...
how could she have ever cared so much?
how could he have been so cruel?
to this day she sleeps in peace,
awaiting the gentle soul who will
redeem mankind of all it's sins...
