Fate

by Brittany   Apr 7, 2006

They were the perfect couple,
the whole town was in awe,
completely in love with each other,
until they met their fall.

He held her hand in his,
as he led her through the park,
she was looking at the sky,
it was starting to get dark.

At last he stopped to face her,
he took a long deep breath,
it was time to tell her,
what would bring love's death.

His family was moving,
they'd be leaving tomorrow,
she saw the pain in his eyes,
but it couldn't match her sorrow.

She wrapped her arms around him,
determined not to cry,
savoring the moments left,
dreading their good-bye.

He promised he'd come back for her,
she swore that she would wait,
neither knew what the future'd bring,
they were too wrapped up in "fate"

The next day she watched him drive away,
and with him went her heart,
she closed her eyes and trapped the tears,
determined to play her part.

She counted the days as they passed,
it had nearly been a year,
she felt so alone now,
her only friend was fear.

Another week passed of silence,
he didn't even call,
afraid that he'd moved on,
she finally let the tears fall.

Sitting in her room,
she sobbed in her despair,
what had happened to them,
just really wasn't fair.

He was her soul mate,
she couldn't lie,
and if another had him,
she knew she would die.

She sat there for a while,
alone in the dark,
reliving the painful memory
of their last night in the park.

The day she got a letter,
he was on his way,
her heart was light with joy,
she had to wait just one more day.

So she waited all night,
and into the next day,
too excited to sleep,
he was coming back to stay.

A knock sounded at the door,
but on her doorstep was a cop,
and what he had to say to her,
made the poor girl's heart completely stop.

A car had been smashed on the side of the road,
the drive was already dead,
they couldn't identify the body,
but found a note instead.

She took it from the cop,
and opened up the note,
her name was at the top,
and this is what he wrote...

I'm sorry that I left you,
because we belong together,
but I will always love you,
far beyond forever.

This time she didn't cry,
though he was truly gone,
her face lit with a smile,
their souls could now be one.

To some it was a tragedy,
young love ripped apart,
but the girl knew she would be fine,
because he would always be in her heart.
