Angel of the Midnight Sky

by Brittany   Apr 10, 2006

Angel of the midnight sky,
Your presence lingers after dark.
I hear it in the piercing cry
Of the impatient morning lark.
You come to me, though love and thirst
Both play a part within your life.
And when you leave, a painful burst
Of torment, cuts me, like a knife.
Loneliness and silence reign,
And occupy the empty hole,
That causes me tremendous pain,
As it picks apart my tortured soul.
And in this time of unknown hate,
Hearts and blood and minds collide.
The people start to separate,
Until there's no one by your side.
Empty hearts and broken will
Are all that you'll uncover here,
But in the darkness, waiting still,
A child dares to shed a tear.
Sadness hovers in the air,
As children die out in the streets.
Poverty mixes with despair,
And death is bragging it's defeats.
Love has come and love departs,
And you've been calling at my door.
The forlorn cry of broken hearts,
left shattered, bleeding on the floor.
Angel of the midnight sky,
You close your eyes and turn your head.
Yet still you hear the children cry,
As one by one, they join the dead.
