My Friends Mask

by Eibutsina   Apr 17, 2006

You have inspired me Teequa
It has been so long since I wrote
Usually my ink runs invisibly dry
The words get clouded in my throat.

But listening to you last night
Touched my soul ever so deep
I had to sit up and write you this
Before I did lay down to sleep.

See I saw your tears slowly welling
Envisioned the sadness in your eyes
I felt your pain through and through me
I heard the desperation in your cries.

I wanted to take that from you
To put a smile on your frail face
To show you beauty isn't only skin deep
But a kind heart of gold and grace.

I know your mask is constricting
That you facade is getting tired
And regardless of what my poem says
It cannot erase the tears you have cried.

But the future holds many wonders
No one knows its beginning or end
This poem Teequa is my promise to you
You can always be yourself with me my friend.

I wont tell you to smile or be happy
To pretend to be strong and be brave
For the truest path to happiness
Is one you alone must pave.

But together we can walk that path
I promise to walk by your side
I'll pick you up when you're not strong
Together we will know how hard we've tried.

I know it might not be enough
But it's the best that I can do
Our friendship has grown in the shortest time
I'll always have love and time for you.

**A friend of mine recently opened up and took off her make up, I didnt realise the extent of the skin disease she had consuming her face and upper body - it inpired me to write this for her**
