Silver Spoon

by N J Thornton   Apr 19, 2006

Silver spoon with a
Distinguished sheen,
Polished to almost worn.

Standing proud -
It reflects the moonlight softly,
Longing for heads in the skies to turn.

The holder's silhouette quite similar -
An enlarged crown with a slender body
That glows in the silvery light.

Mind the handle of filthy fingers
And a mediocre mind,
Be reminded to look, and not touch!

Flawless in a glassy case, though
Curious of the working class,
Then, comes the buffer again...

Silver spoon with a
Distinguished sheen,
Pristine to almost worn.

The silver spoon. A great topic to write about. And you did it well! I don't think I see any faults in there. Seems pretty good to me. I wish I had more to say, since you helped me alot with my poetry. But, your poems are great. They really are. I hope to read some more soon! 5/5

Yes, I have heard that term, from a Bob Dylan song. Probably one of the best writers ever. Well, this was a really good poem, definitely something to take into perspective.

I must admit that i did not know about the silver spoon metaphor but I looked at your comment & realized what it was & read the poem over & understood what i was reading lol. But the poem was very good. It had a nice flow to it & i especially love the stanza:

This poem is based on the silver spoon metaphor, and in case anyone doesn't know what it's about I will try to clarify it for you now.
Being "born with a silver spoon in ones mouth" means being born rich and being provided for with out any difficulties.
The poem is about those born rich and being of higher class they see themselves as "higher" than anyone else. Also, they are "polished" and only receive the best without having to work for it. That was the main idea I was going for. There are some other points in there too which I'm hoping can be picked up with out my explanation.
    Thanks for reading.
