Across The Night

by MidniteRain   Apr 20, 2006

First drop of rain hits the windowpane
I place my hand where yours once was
And hope to feel the sensation again
Of palms caressing another
But once was is all there is
Only the pounding rain fills my ears

Stretched fingers search for warmth
Knuckles stroke my cheek no more
Water drips alongside my tears
I lean upon this cold, hard surface
Pressed against what separates
Me from you and you from me

Endless glass so numbingly clear
A looking glass to reveal
Your shadowed dreams and perpetual fear
I see you tremble in sleep as I do
Tormented by the thought of me
As I am here and you are there

Our voices no longer speak as one
Only our whispers play upon the air
With eyes closed and thoughts of you
I wrap my embrace within the wind
Lay a soft kiss upon the rain
And send my love across the night
