Broken Promises

by Hannah Tiernan   Apr 20, 2006

You told me you were sorry
that you\'d never hurt me again
you said i held you together
you called me your best friend

For awhile you stayed true
you kept me from going insane
you actually made me happy
and kept me from being ashamed

You kept me smiling everyday
you did everything you could
and I was always so grateful
the way i knew I should

But then one day it ended
and my smile turned to a frown
you yelled and screamed at me
and turned my world upside down

You broke me into pieces
and you don\'t even care
you broke your promise to me
and forgot the secrets I had shared

But now I ask you why
what exactly did I do
please just come out and tell me
why you broke my heart in two

So I guess I never mattered
at least not enough to stay true
I guess I\'ve lost a great friend
and that great friend was you
