Advice to a Teenager

by Kelly Katherine   Apr 21, 2006

I know you believe you are invincible and fresh.
But your body is made of tissue, bones and flesh,
Just like mine.

I know you are young and it's time to play,
But the end of your life is not light-years away,
Just like mine.

I know you think you're are too busy to bug me,
To give me a smile, to kiss me or to hug me,
But I miss you.

I know your days of youth are active and full,
With friends and cars and jobs and school,
But I miss you.

As a parent I must say with best of intent,
Ask yourself if your parents are really content;
I bet they miss you.

I know you think you'll have a chance, one day soon,
To make all things right, on some future afternoon,
But now, I must tell you:

Life is flying! Streaking past!
Release the words from your lips, and fast!
Say the words we all long to hear...
Yell them, or whisper them into his or her ear...

"Mom, Dad, I love you"
