Light Bulb

by N J Thornton   Apr 21, 2006

How many dreamers
Does it take to screw in a
Light bulb?
It’s a question dreamt of by many,
And pondered to the brink of
Electrocution.

Blue sparks scatter into
Oblivion – like particles
Of neon fairy dust.
Leaving the heart racing in
A dazed bang – ideas popped
In an impulse of creativity.

Glassy anticipation of a
Golden illumination, switched on -
In the mind’s eye.
Lingering memories and
Hope of change drive the
Soul with a vision.

Inquisitive hearts rise
To the challenge of thought
And inspiration.
Even if the creation
Stands visibly at zero
In the mind it is infinite.

What would it signify if
One plus one equalled seven
Or coal was mistaken for gold?
And again, how many dreamers
Does it take to screw in a
Light bulb?

Again. You've done a great job. I'm not sure what it is with your poems. They just leave me in amazment. You're a talented writer. And I did like the question you asked. "How many dreamers does it take to screw in a light bulb?" Very good thinking. Keep it up! 5/5

So for the majority of the poem I feel that the light bulb is of the sort shown in cartoons when a character has a sudden idea. I'd assume then that it only takes a single dreamer to screw in a light bulb, because having the bulb lit doesn't mean you have an idea of any worth, just a striking new idea, which is what dreamers do.

The way you take something, and put full thought and meaning into it really wows me... i have read some of your stuff.. and trust me im hooked... i plan on reading more, and more, until there is no more left to read... u have such completely amazing talent i just cant even begin to tell you how much i think of what you write...! every now and then i will write a poem that i am absolutely in love with... but now i feel like some little kid coming home to my mommy with a picture i painted... while beside me is a woman with a masterpiece... you seriously are my favorite ever! please read some of my stuff!

Very well written, but I already know you're fully capable of writing fantatic pieces of art. What I'm amused about is how you come up with such interesting ways to address a point and get your meaning across.
