Paper Wings

by Evenstar   Apr 24, 2006

I caught glimpse of a butterfly
Disabled by rush hour traffic
She pulsed her wings strenuously
Though massive metal sheets
Sliced through the air like jagged razors
Seeing to the other side
Of endless pleasure and security
She persevered her demons
With a dedicated will to live
She will not relinquish
Until her delicate wings evaporate
Into the whispering breeze.
As the last hurricane of traffic
Swallows her
She gracefully floats
Onto the empty street
You see, sweet butterfly
You were right
They like you better
Framed and dried

That was truly an awesome read. loved the last four lines. funny how life emulates nature, the death of a butterfly could easily be about any loss of yourself. I, myself, look at it as a loss of individuality. We can't all be cardboard cut-outs, as much as people try to make us. Thanx.
