Tale of Sorrow

by Arti   Apr 25, 2006

There was a soft beauty in the eyes
That sought me out, day and night,
Fevered by a cruel curse of pain
That had the power, her life to blight

Oh! To keep her safe from harm!
Oh! For the power to stop her pain!
Oh! For the blessedness of her voice!
Oh! To hear her laugh again!

What would I not give to have her back!
The very sight of her empty bed is more
Than I can take, I'm left here all alone
My heart bereft of her love, I'm so sore...

The brilliant eyes, dulled and glazed
The trusting fingers that found no peace
At the very end of a life cut short by pain
From which only Death brought her relief...

The dolls that lay orphaned by her illness
Now reproach me for losing her, she was so dear
The wind chimes that sang for her, now no wind
Can make them sing again those notes so sweet and clear

Everything she touched, everything she loved
Sits still and silent in memory of the child
That once sang and danced and laughed and played
And was generally naughty and gay and wild

She brought love into my life, after another
Had taken love away; she lived with me for
Was it really four years? To my hurting heart
It seems more like a few wonderful days.

She taught me once more to live and love
But then suddenly with pain, she faded away
Her pitiful body lived on, a prison to a soul
That yearned to once more run and play

The once rich hazel eyes were now listless and pale
And shadows gathered on the hollowed face
My heart broke to see my baby lying there
Patiently yearning once more to be free

No doctor no drug no cure did cure her
Neither of the illness nor of the pain
She cried whole nights and screamed for hours
Yet, not once, did my baby complain

Oh darling! Forgive me, I could not
Protect you from the pain that illness brought
Oh come back to me, just once to say "Its okay"
Oh please! Darling! Help me bear this my lot!
