Choices and Failings

by Poetvoices   Apr 25, 2006

You're both hanging there.
Your fingers are slipping.
I have time for one of you.
The other will lose their gripping.

That's a fall that I,
and the one I choose,
would have to watch
as the other, their life would lose.

But I still stand contemplating
glancing over the cliff.
I see your pleading faces,
begging for a lift.

I won't choose between you.
You've both helped me through it all.
I turn and walk away,
as the both of you fall.

Life's choices are always difficult and you've captured that in this write ... no matter that others show us the way ... the path has to be one of our own choosing.

Oooh, interesting poem. It made me read it twice because it leaves a little cliffhanger and I really did want to know the reason of your choice. It had a great meaning and can twist to anyone's situation of choosing between two people, like Divorce & Love. It was well-written and I enjoyed it. Kudos!
