My energy is gone from events past
Drained and depleted as never before.
Too much to bear, down, down I go
Sinking to my knees upon the earth.
Sun warmed sands release their heat
Tangy scent of the sea comes to me.
Gentle lap of waves upon the shore
The squawk of seagulls fill the air
Calming and serene is this place.
Life\'s battles and wars aside
Rising surf of inbound tide
Swirling sands in rushing waters
Creatures of the Sea tossed together.
Waves rush in and then flow out
Small lines of seafoam dot the shore.
Darkened sands from gentled waves
Firm beneath slowly padding paws.
Eyes sunken and hollow unseeing
Ears alert to all of life\'s sounds.
Thoughts turn inward upon the past
Bittersweet memories rise like the tide.
Each a gentle rush towards the shore
Demanding attention then no more.
Seabreeze rises ruffling my dark pelt
And I know, beside you I shall be free.
In silvered sands my paws do sink
Each step slow and sure I take.
Gentle seabreeze erasing my tracks
So tired, tired and weary am I.
All support having been yanked away
Like the outbound surf in the quay.
Sifting sands beneath my paws,
Warmth fleeting as I seek the knoll.
Have I truly lost my way?
Wild with fury the tides become
Crashing and pounding is the surf.
Winds rising with a howling force
Dark becomes the daytime skies.
Black clouds rolling with thunder
Streaks of lightning flashing bright.
Swirling sands now sting my eyes
Filtering through my shadowed pelt.
Run, Run, Running in sinking sands
The knoll and safety is just ahead.
Up the hill scrambling paws tread
Sliding down then trying yet again.
Silvered sands give way to black
At last, my paws have traction.
Over the hill my furred body flies
Whipping seagrass tugs at my side.
It is here I ride out this storm of storms
Where the seagulls and eagles forever soar.
Alas, a ray of sun breaks through the clouds
The swirling sands now earthen bound.
Deafening roar of wildly crashing surf
Quieting upon the savaged the beach.
Swirling silver sands settle covering dark
All signs of past and present erased.
Fully now does the sun shine bright,
Once again, waves gentled on the shore
Thin lines of seafoam dotting the sand.
I stand and shake my shadowy pelt
Silvered sands flying from rippling coat.
I look out over the gentle sea and I know,
In time, I once again shall be me.
With a soft howl I turn and run,
Head and tail once more held high,
Strength regained with rising moon.
