My Thirst

by Bongani Ngwenya   May 13, 2006

Water was abundant
And I anticipated no thirst
Forgetting droughts were coming
I boasted to the thirsty

Today I lust water
I am at the bottom of the wheel
I cry for sympathy
Inaudible I sound to their ears

Everyone is mean
All they do is tit for tat
Should my rainy life resume
I will ever recall that superiority is futile
Verily, mankind is example-based
They do as you do

I am grown up now
I have learnt this lesson
Helping is tantamount to investment
My neighbour's thirst is mine in disguise
