GAS PRICES!

It was 1970 and gas shot up to over a dollar!
All the country was in a big fat holler!
We all bought Volkswagens, hondas and datsuns,
But only OPEC was the one having all the fun.
The country cried alternative fuel sources are what we need!
But our government as usual did not take our heed.
Flash forward to 2005,
Gas prices are now eating us alive!
The oil president said I think we need alternative fuel energy.
No Duh, said Homer! As any fool can see!
But as usual the government speaks with forked tongues,
Because the rich oil companies are still on top of the ladder rungs.
Some say drill in Alaska to find the new fuels,
But some people are hard headed just like their mules.
When is this country going to get its head out of the sand?
Probably whenever the rich people make us take our last stand!
When in time of troubles this country has always come through,
Just like when our scientist invented synthetic rubber in World War Two.
So what is the answer you ask of me?
I do not know for sure but if we do not something fast we will not have a country!
