Eulogy to a friend

by Gerry Mattia   May 16, 2006

Stop the bells
silence the choir
forget flying the flags at half-mast
lay down the guns
lest they prove
to few to salute you
as for the flowers
there aren't enough hours
that could buy enough of them for you
i stand in your wake
behind the parade
that leaves us quiet today
and wait for the sun
to no longer belong
i don't care for it now anyway
