The Lightning Strikes

by Nikki   May 27, 2006

Lightning striking down,
Rain pounding the ground.
I want to stand in this,
This I cannot miss.
Let the rain beat me,
Coming down so hard I can't see.
That's how I feel right now,
Many would ask how.
It's so pretty to me,
And makes me feel so free.
Standing there with my arms out,
Looking up and wanting to shout.
Thinking while it rains,
While all the stress drains.
Lightning splits apart,
Just as life is doing to my heart.
I just want to sit here and cry,
I'm not going to, at least I'll try.
Listening to the rain hit the ground,
And hearing the thunder pound,
I just get lost in the sound.
I lie on the ground humming a tune,
This better not end soon.
It puts me at ease,
Bring me to my knees,
And all I can do is cease.
The storm calls me,
While all others flee.
Lightning is electrifying and pretty,
Is it going to strike me?
Last I see is a bright light,
Even though it is midnight.
My life flashes,
As the storm passes.
I was struck to the ground,
Just as I wake to the sound.
It was all just a dream,
But lightning is jutting down like a stream.
Out of bed into the storm I go,
What will happen next I'll never know.
