My Golden Companion

by Jodi Newlon   May 28, 2006

I knew a star,
A mighty star,
A star with a spirit of gold.

My companion and I,
Together would fly,
Until one day
My gold star grew old.

I saw a star,
A shooting star,
Fall from the sky to my feet.

She said to I,
"Please don't cry,
But fact is that I'm growing weak.

So you and I,
Together will fly,
One last time before I part.

So come be free,
And soar with me,
And sooth my aching heart.

I loved a star,
A cold dead star,
Lying so still in my hand.

Now memory's all
I have to recall
Me and my golden best friend.

[this I wrote for my grandmother while she was in the hospital...I feel kind of silly because she has not passed on yet...but while I was in the mindset that she was, I wrote this]
