To the Veterans (Thank You)

by JL   May 29, 2006

A day like any other
Sacrificing yourself for your country
People you will never know
So we can stay free

A moment of silence
One second for all you\'ve done
For all your years of service and training
We complain to give up one

Going away to fight
Knowing you might never return
Stuck in the desert with little water
Sun beats down as bombs explode and burn

Watching in horror
As friends beside you died
Blown to pieces
Tears for the family who cried

Returning home, after a year or more
With the trauma of war
See your family and friends
You\'ll never be as you were before

You gave up too much to be forgotten
People take a moment or two
Thank a Veteran
Cause you will never know what they went through

My brother had a friends who's father who had severe nightmares and flash backs that had him feared to go to sleep at night...ONE situation haunted him...I think they deserve way more than just a moment of silence...awesome write!!!

Thank you. Most of my family has been/is in the service and it annoys me that people have no idea what they go through. XXXXX
