Black Eyeliner

by Danielle   May 30, 2006

Hidden behind the hoodies and the baggy pants
Is someone who yearns to be loved
To be treated equally as all those around her.
Hidden behind the black eyeliner is someone
Just like you, who feels pain and joy
Someone who could just be you.

Hidden behind the black eyeliner, the frowns
And the fake smiles, is someone who cries
From the rejection of everyone around her.
Hidden behind all the lies and the cutting
Is someone who has known true pain, who has
Been through hell and back, and lives to tell the tale.

She cries herself to sleep at night, wondering why
This was all happening to her; the pain and anguish
Of being away from her family yet another night
Knowing that when she woke up in the morning
Her mom would not be there to comfort her
Wondering why life had to be this way.

Sometimes she feels so alone in a crowd of people
Alone when she's surrounded by all her friends
Wondering why she feels so dead and lonely inside
Asking herself, would anyone save her from her inner demons?
She cries when she thinks of all the time that has slipped away
Minutes that her life has ticked away without hearing those three words.

She hates herself for the time that she wasted
For not appreciating the time that she had with her siblings
She felt like a horrible person for doing all the things she did
Sometimes she wonders how anyone could love her
After all the things she had done, pushing them away
When they tried to help, not wanting help, wanting to be left alone.

Will anyone save her from herself?
Will anyone show her a reason worth living, a reason to take another chance
Show her how to smile to laugh, to love herself so she could see
The love that everyone else felt for her, to understand
That the good things can overpower the bad
Will anyone save her life?

Hidden behind the hoodies and the baggy pants
Is someone who yearns to be loved
To be treated equally as all those around her.
Hidden behind the black eyeliner is someone
Just like you, who feels pain and joy
Someone who could just be you.

Hidden behind the black eyeliner, the frowns
And the fake smiles, is someone who cries
From the rejection of everyone around her.
Hidden behind all the lies and the cutting
Is someone who has known true pain, who has
Been through hell and back, and lives to tell the tale.
