Drunk Driving

by Katey Metcalf   Jun 1, 2006

That night was fantastic,

As we went for a dinner & a movie,

That was our 3rd date,

It already seemed like it was fate,

Then by the 6th date,

We moved in with eachother,

We spent most of the time under the covers,

One night I was gonna tell you I was pregnant,

There was a knock at the doorm

As I looked up from the floor and saw a police officer,

Ma'am he said your boyfriend died,

I sat there and cried as they told me what happened,

That you never saw that drunk driver coming,

But they gave me a paper and a ring,

It was a poem from you:

I love you darling,

You are the stars in the heaven,

Everything about u is so perfect,

From your toes to you head,

Even in bed,

You opened my heart so here's the key,

Will u marry me?

As I looked at the ring and the poem,

And I thought of the baby inside,

I wanted to die,

But I must stay strong for the baby and me,

I decided I wouldn't mope around but do something,

His death will not be for nothing,

Cuz in spring,

they'll have to hear what I have to say,

when the baby is born and he asks why his father died,

I can sit him up tall and say so maybe one day you can drive and be safe,

My child will stand up tall,

And say Thanks I LOVE YOU, DAD!!!
