Responsibility

by Raychil   Jun 6, 2006

Another tear is falling tonight
Can no one hears its scream?
This little girl is dying inside
Her life is not as it seems

Lets go back to the beginning
Through the life of one small girl
Born with the name of Cassidy
A beautiful addition to the world

Life was wonderful at first
She grew up with a mom and dad
Just after four years in her home
Another baby was had

She was now a big sister
Her mom said she had a "responsibility"
But Cassidy didn't understand yet
Her mind didn't have the ability

A few more years went by
She was nine and he was five
They were both too innocent to expect
The problem that soon arrived

Just one more year went by
And their happy times were dead
The word "responsibility"
Cassidy suddenly dread

Her dad came home drunk again
She hadn't gone to sleep
She waited for the foot steps to pass
Before from bed, she'd creep

She went to her brother's room
And moved him out of bed
She tried her hardest not to make noise
For if she did she'd be dead

She put him in a closet
And made sure he was hidden
Then she walked back to her room
And awaited the terror to begin

Just as she got back into bed
Her door flung open wide
She pretended to be asleep
But her heart was racing inside

She felt herself yanked out of bed
Like so many times before
She just went limp and took the hits
When finally she was dropped on the floor

Her mother came in yelling
And dragged her father away
As Cassidy crawled back into bed
And let the tears give way

Once more do marks cover her
Once more does her body sting
Oh what a terrible fate
Did this "responsibility" bring

This brings us back to where we were
This young girl letting tears flow
Feeling her heart dying inside
From the bruises now starting to show

At least she knows her brother's safe
She'll protect him to the best of her ability
After all she's his older sister
And he is her responsibility.

How sad! This really did bring tears to my eyes. It was beautifully written in this morbid, feverish way... and while I was reading it, it just made me shake my head - because I know people are living like this each day. Good Job...
