Stand Tall

by Alisha   Jun 6, 2006

Race is full of beautiful things,
But have you ever noticed the pain it brings?
I witness this in some form every day,
And I dont understand how someone could be this way.

I hate that people call him "black" instead of his name,
Or that they say "they" are all the same
When they let out a painful remark,
About his skin being a little too dark.

This is the story of a young couple in love
Being torn apart by the big folks above.
Have you ever been scrutinized for the lover you choose?
And no matter what you always seem to lose?

Have you ever seen an interracial pair?
And deep down you know you dont care?
You cant bring yourself to see why someone would-
Because you know damn well he isnt from the "hood".

Well, me, I smile-I grin as wide as I can,
Because this girl takes great pride in her man.
And through all she stands in all her glory-
She is the heroine of this story.

They walk hand in hand down a racist lane.
People beating them down with mental pain.
She pulls him closer and ignores stare after stare.
The racial slurs make it a pure nightmare.

She said, "I love you", as she peered into his glistening eyes.
He choked back, "I love you, too," and to her surprise he cries.
Never once has this boy ever cried in front of her.
She turned away as her eyes began to burn and blur.

Over the years this poor couple has been through hell.
The boy never smoked, nor did he sell,
But still he was accused of such horrible things,
Just because the "rep" his race brings.

So if ever you are in a similar relationship,
Just let those racist idiots have their fits.
Because in the end they will be the ones to fall,
As long as you both continue to stand tall.
