Adrenaline Rush

Adrenaline rush
Standing at the line as my heart beats faster,
I imagine crossing the finish line ahead of the others
Out of breath and red faced,
I have won the race
But the starter yanks my thoughts back to the present
And I realize that it will begin shortly
I set the blocks up and get into a relaxed form
"On your mark!" is heard over the wind in my ears
My heart beat quickens as I wait for the next words
"Set." is hollered
I take my final position and look at the track beneath my hands
The gun goes off and I eat up the ground like a shooting star
The wind rushes through my hair and sweeps all thoughts and fears from me
I glance at the runner alongside me
And as I hear the words of encouragement from all that care for me,
I shove the rest of my energy into my legs
Crossing the finish line and short of breath
Disappointment invades my mind
As I feel his arms around me,
I realize that no matter how slow of a runner I am,
He will love me and continue to be proud of me for my efforts
The adrenaline rush returns with a warm feeling
This feeling tells me of my new passion for sprinting
