That dreadful day

by adam   Jun 14, 2006

We knew you were hurting although you wouldnâ??t cry, And could see you were suffering, see the pain in your eye.
we wanted to comfort and hold you, to be with you that day, You looked so helpless and frail while in bed you lay.

we watched as you shivered from a new pain,
And wondered how we might have handled the same. We wanted to scream, to shout, and to yell, You said you were fine although your skin was so pale.

We knew in our hearts your time was near,
And wished we could take you, To keep you here.

we stood there watching as each breath came slow, And fought to find courage, our emotions were low.
we promised you when the time came we would not cry, You never saw a tear in our eye, always they were dry.

we held your hand as we silently said goodbye,
And knew in our heart that soon you would die.
we stroked your forehead and said how we loved you, You nodded and smiled we could see that you knew.

we knew it was time, our tears we could not hide,
As we stood there waiting for death by your side.
we knew itâ??s what u wanted and prayed for, but it was still hard for us to say good bye.
Even now that your gone your still loved, and missed but never forgotten.

To a much loved Grandad, father, husband, brother and uncle. Ronald Marsh
