Too Young

by Heather   Jun 19, 2006

At 13 I told my parents what I thought life was.
Seeming amused they asked me for my definition,
Confused by their amusment I told them it was a field of daises.
My mother took me by the hand shaking her head and told me no.
I asked her what it was then, and she told me I was "too young" to hear the answer.

At 16 I suffered through heart ache, family sorrow, and pains of all sorts.
Remembering what my mother said I asked her what life really was.
Once again she told me I was "too young".

At 18 I went off to college, found the love of my life, and found out what alcohol really does.
Then from 25 to 30 I got married had 2 kids, and bought a house.

For the last time I asked my mother what life really was.
She smiled at me and told me I was too young.
I asked her when I wouldn't be "too young" to know.
She looked at me and said never.
