Shadow Child

Two children from the one mother
oldest is the son and then the daughter
the son exceeds all expectations
for that gets great admiration
the daughter tries to do the same
but does nothing but bring her mother shame
threw his high school years he rein supreme
he became of the family the one that gleamed
the daughter begins to see the truth
shes been a disappointment all her youth
depressed and alone even in 6th grade
her glow and her dreams slowly start to fade
the son graduates and walks with a glow
the daughter stands in the back alone in the shadows
now hes in college and still is adored
she enters high school but thats to be ignored
he still is on top, to always prevail
as she falls deeper and deeper and still fails
he now needs more money despite the conditions
he gets what he need for his image of ambition
the daughter stays and takes the blame
for the lack of money and freedom her mother claim
he did what he had to succeed all these years
at the price of his sister shedding so many tears
she's home all day battling fight after fight
and stays up in the dark in her bed every night
finally she found what she excelled and didn't need pity
she moved up in basketball , moved up to varsity
but that still wasn't enough to get love from her mother
she had to miss a game to see a concert of her brother's
they had fought the day before, him darkening her eye
seeing its him mom loves best, she sits wishing shed die
all the years she gave up so her brother could be best
thinking shed have a turn, wrongly she had guessed
so the daughter sits there in her room
as sadness, fear, pain start to again consume
she wonders if shes ever not fake smiled
she knows now that shes nothing but the shadow child
