Flooded Farewell

by Mel   Jun 28, 2006

She was gazing in that pond again
her reflected visual translucent and distorted
yet it seemed to parallel so damn well
as mosquitoes nipped at her wrists
and cool liquid soothed down the ankles
this would be the last time
she knew it'd be the best
because this time there was no escaping
and she could feel her heart beat waiting
it's when you don't hear the noise anymore
the buzzing long gone
the birds stay hushed
the trees don't even whisper
but she's not alone
looking down into that water
that once ran clear and blue
and she watches it intently as it changes hues
giving it a bit of who she is
maybe it could tell her who she is
but her answers go with the wind
and they curl under every ripple
so she reaches out to entwine with them
yet the pressure caves her under
and soon she's going down
yes, she's going down
closing her eyes
as she drowns
