You Can\'t Win

by loretta Taylor   Jun 30, 2006

I hear a voice in the early morning dawn.
As the wind whispers to me, I told you he'd be gone
I savagely wipe my eyes.
Hating the bitter tears that I cry.
And I hear the taunting voice on the wind.
You can't win, You can't win

My heart cries out, you are a fool,
You went ahead and broke your own rule.
I told you not to fall in love with him.
And I hear the taunting voice on the wind.
You can't win, You can't win

I think about the love we share
And how very much I care
I knew I couldn't hold you here to stay
My heart knew you would go away
And I hear the taunting voice on the wind
You can't win, You can't win

You never lied
You told me from the start
That your job would take you away
That you couldn't stay
I knew your job was part of you
And I loved you anyway
And I hear the taunting voice on the wind
You can't win, You can't win

Knowing I would lose, I surrendered to our need
You kissed my sleeping face when you were about to leave
I woke in the morning in an empty lonely bed
Thoughts of how much I love you were running through my head
And I hear the taunting voice on the wind
You can't win, You can't win

I have no regrets, though I cry bitter tears
I run into the wind chased by my fears
The thought enters my head that I will never see you again
And I hear the taunting voice on the wind
You can't win, You can't win

I wonder if you have heard the taunting voice on the wind
The one that tells you that you need to be with her again
You have your freedom, but she took your heart
You know in your heart you can no longer be apart
Do you hear the taunting voices on the wind?
The ones that tells you
You can't win,

I stand in the early morning dawn
And rage that you are gone
Then I laugh, and then I smile
For I know you will be back in awhile
For I've taken your heart this day
I know one day you'll be back to stay
My laughter taunts the voice on the wind
And I whisper softly
You can win.
