The cancerous rose around my heart

by Seth Eckel   Jul 5, 2006

Deep inside my chest
I feel a pain it is a pest
Inside my heart a cancer grows
Where it comes from nobody knows
The doctors say im fine but I know there's something wrong
Its too late to fix its been growing too long
Its wrapped around my ribcage like a wild rose
With thorns so sharp and nobody knows
It squeezes and squeezes until my heart breaks
I havent the mind to kill it for i created it i fed it
Little did i know it would take control
And kill me on the inside leaving no emotion left unscaled
It brought me up and it brought me down
Leaving no smile without a frown

I'm curious as to why you stopped rhyming for the 9th to 12th lines. Also bear in mind that proper punctuation really is a HUGE help in emphasizing what you're trying to say in poetry.

I know it's not seen as that important to the younger generation (we've all been it) but when it comes to good poetic emphasis I would say it's essential.

I love that you wrote about a rose and that its not always a beautiful thing
