A flicker

by lost soul   Jul 11, 2006

Standing alone
At the edge of the cliff,
She looks down into the frigid river of despair.
She tries to remember how she got there,
But cant.
All around her the wind wails,
Anguishing sobs.
She tries to plug her ears,
Then realizes the cries are her own.
The clouds above her swirl,
Whispering dark promises of a storm to come.
Chilled to the bone
She shudders,
Trying to think of a time when everything was ok.
Cold, lonely wetness
Jerks her back to reality,
The storm has broke.
The sky's tears
Drench her soul.
She tries to be strong,
But slowly her fire is being smothered
Just as it looks like she cant fight no more,
A gust of warm air
Encircles her, swirling,
Coursing through her soul and heart.
A new hope has sprung.
Desperately she holds onto it, all the while
The storm tries to break her, but slowly it loses the battle
And surrenders.
Sunshine breaks through the clouds
Diminishing its threat of despair.
She raises her face to the sun
And realizes there is always a calm
After the storm, you just
Need a flicker of hope to rekindle the soul.
