Oh Beirut

by Wildflower   Jul 17, 2006

I see the streets
Empty like never before
Not a human in sight
Only the smell of war

I see Lives that have been killed
Tears that had been shed
Hearts that were ripped
And the war goes on

My eyes wander
Upon the remains
Of a land once beautiful
Burned like ashes in a tray

My voice rings louder
With a question they deny
Simple and obvious
And that is : Why

Look at this wreck
Look at what’s become of us
Catastrophe after the other
Where is this leading

All I know is one thing
I can never agree
Look at what’s happening
To you and me

Oh Beirut
You shall see a better day
Until then
A sad melody plays in the distance
