The Little Drummer Boy

by herewithme   Jul 27, 2006

She hears the beat of the drummer boy
while she's warm inside her bed
the haunting sound from that poor lost toy
may as well be dead

no one hears the pounding drum
no one really cares
she couldn't stop feeling glum
as she listened for the distant snare

the beats were struck hard and fast
the skin almost snapping
as the little drummer walked past
a close-by alley way caught all his tap-tap-tapping

the girl looked out the tinted glass
to see him walk on by
never did she see him pass
only heard his cry

"A drumming child, I may be,
but I am not a toy"
and in that moment she did see
the little, lost, drummer boy
