No one else could

I tried to hold my feelings in,
lock them up tight and put them in the bin,
you would never know how much i loved you,
just because of all the little things you do,
but somehow you worked your way in,
and i gave in, even though i knew it was a sin,
you knew how hard i found it to trust you,
but you comfort me with all the things you do,
and even now we're not together i can look back,
and see kindness is something you didn't lack,
you helped me up when i was down,
you cheered me up when i was wearing a frown,
you made me see what true love was like, see,
even though it didn't last long, i know you really did love me,
when we were together, you said it would last forever,
i know now you thought it would, but i knew it never could,
you made me see all the good things,
see everyone as diamond rings,
i started to see how good life could be,
and even now you've left me,
i don't hold it against you,
cause near the end i knew,
things weren't working out alright,
my respect for you had reached a new height,
you had the sense to call it quits,
after we'd had are first few hits,
now it's over i can look back and smile,
even though it only lasted a little while,
it was still good,
you did something that no one else could.

*about a month ago i broke up with my boyfriend who I'd been going out with for 2 months, and this poem is just dedicated to him, cause he was one of my best friends and he still he is.
