The Other Side

by Christine   Aug 6, 2006

I live my life in darkness, never able to touch the light that lies just out of reach.
I sit on the edge of a great precipice as shadows fall over me,
devouring me inside their great emptiness.
All around me the world withers and decays, while before me all is full of life.
I try to jump to the side of great relief to finally be rid of this hollow existence, but I am frozen to the ground, forced to watch on as those before me know joy.
And when I think I have found a bridge that will allow me to cross to the other side, the moment I step upon it, it crumbles beneath my feet.
And so I sit at the ledge, my life sinking deeper into the blackness,
knowing I shall never step into the light.
