If Only...

*I was inspired to write this from a picture I saw on postsecret.com
*so everyone knows, this poem is about a woman who had an abortion and now she can't have children anymore.

I wish I could take it back
But it's too late to even try
I didn't even get to feel it
Or hear my baby's cry

I didn't give it a chance
To take a breath of air
I didn't get to hold it
Or touch it's skin and hair

I didn't even get to know
If it would be a boy or girl
I just took it's life away
And kept it from the world

If only I had know then
What I now I've come to know
That baby was my only child
That I would ever been able to grow

If only we'd had the chance
To know one another
If only I had known
That was my only chance to be a mother

But now it's too late
There's nothing I can do or say
If only I had known back then
What I know today..
