Drink Driving Disaster

by Regie*   Aug 17, 2006

**This is a true story**

Drink! Drink! Drink!
His friends would cheer
Come on now
Its just one more beer.

By now he knew
That he had enough
But the pressure on him
Was just too tough.

He kept on drinking
More and more
And seemed to forget
Drink driving was against the law.

So he got in his car
Thinking he'd be alright
Assuming no-one would be on the road
At this time of night.

He started the engine
His vision was blurred
The road seemed clear
Not a sound could be heard.

His head was spinning
He's not thinking straight
He's now speeding
At a terrible rate.

He still reassures himself
Everything is fine
Yet, he doesn't even realize
He's not driving in a straight line.

Here is just a young man
Who's only the age of twenty-six
A now drunk driver
Making a mistake he can never fix.

He drives along the road
Wind swishing by
When suddenly bright car headlights
Beam into his eyes

He tries to take a turn
But the other car is just too near
As both their wheels screech
He hears a girl scream in fear.

He grips onto the wheel
As both their cars collide
This is not what he intended
To happen to his car ride.

His head thumps hard
As the car crashes to the ground
He hears a girl screaming in agony
And will never forget the sound

He lays there half conscious
And hears sirens come about
These are the last things he remembers
Before he blacked out.

In hospital he woke up
Just the next day
Curious about what happened
And if anyone was hurt in anyway.

He could never have prepared himself
For what he was about to hear
At least now we know it will be a long time
Before he drinks another beer

Turns out that in the crash
The other car was set on fire
All of it burnt from every door
To every tire

Three girls were in the car at the time
That the event took place
Two of them were killed
The other suffered severe burns to her body and face.

The man couldn't believe it
He fell down to his knees and cried
He felt full of regret and guilt
Coz he had decided to drink and drive.

But now because of that
Two young lives have been lost
There's nothing he can do about it
He'd take his mistake back at any cost

He knows that he must face the third girl
Who managed to survive that dreadful night
She was burnt so badly
She lost her hands, nose, face and most sight.

This young women whose body was ruined
Was only twenty years old
Both the girls killed
Were her friends, he was told.

However, amazingly she forgave him
In shock, his face turned pale
It was the court that punished him
Giving him seven years in jail.

The moral to this story
Is don't drive a car unless you're satisfied
That you haven't had too much to drink
Coz there are consequences if you drink and drive.

You know, these days young people are told over and over-don't drink and drive, but they never listen, not until someone gets hurt or worse, killed, thank-you for speaking out!
