Among the Sunflower Fields

by *~CaSsYa~*   Aug 17, 2006

The sun shines bright into my eyes,
A sign of a beautiful sunny day.
I decide to go pick a sunflower from the golden blanket of sunflower fields,
My mother's favorite place in the whole world.

My mother has been sick for months now.
I miss when we used to come here together.
We used to get a whole bouquet full of bright sunflowers,
But today, I decide to get only one.

The mailman passed and gave me a wave.
And he asked if mom was okay, the same old question.
I told her that she wasn't feeling good again,
And I hurried back to our house to show her the shining blossom.

I look at my mother and her face was snow, and her hand was ice.
In terror I sobbed and hugged her with the glowing sunflower in my hand.
She had gone to the other world to live with dad now,
And as I looked at the bright sunflower, it brings back those warm memories.

When I come back to the fields I remember of my mother.
Sometimes it feels like she is talking to me,
"This is my favorite place in the whole world,"
A gentle voice inside the shining golden carpet.

Years have passed by and I come back here with my daughter.
I always tell her that this is my favorite place in the world.
We go home with a bouquet full of the golden delight.
Those flowers will dry out in a few days but our memories will keep glowing among the sunflower fields.
