Shakespearean Lovers

I do not want a Romeo
Ever changing like the moon
From Rosaline to Juliet
His love too quickly swooned.
Count Paris was even just as bad
Though full of prestige and grace,
When men like him proclaim their love,
It's only for a face.
Claudio, both brave and true
Was too easily confused
By the schemes and traps that others laid
Till his true love he abused.
Benedict, though witty and fun
Could not see his own love's light
Till those he knew planned secretly
To make his heart's ways light
Lysander knew of a fair true love
But was tricked by merely a flower
If a man of mine was so inclined,
I'd leave him in an hour.
Bassanio, though good in heart
Had to lie, deceive, pretend
And in the end it almost cost
The life of his dearest friend.
Petruchio thought his way was best
To tame his wife, the "shrew"
But in the end, did he really know
That what he said, she'd do?
Proteus was a gentleman thought
By his fair love and his friend
Till he tried to take a love by force
And there did his goodwill end.
Though Shakespeare is often lauded
By critics both far and wide
When he said he wrote of real true love
I think sometimes he lied.
