The Mending of a Broken Heart

by Rika Harrowvale   Aug 29, 2006

Long ago in a land far away,
There lived a princess and a castle was where she did stay.
The princess was lonely, sad, and torn apart,
All of this resulting in a broken heart.
See, the princess had loved many, many times,
But all of her lovers had committed terrible crimes.
They used her, cheated her, and lied to her too,
They didn't really love her, though she thought they loved her true.
She couldn't handle the feeling of pain,
She could not stand to be hurt again.
So the princess locked her heart up one day,
And vowed to never again give it away.

Long ago in a land far away,
There lived a prince who met a princess one day.
This princess was suffering from a broken heart,
She was sad, she was lonely, she was falling apart.
The prince wanted to help the princess for sure,
For the pain and the sadness he wanted to cure.
He knew she'd been hurt and, therefore, would take it slow,
But everything about her, he wanted to know.
She told him about her horrible past,
But he could barely understand her, for she talked way too fast,
And as she looked up to the bright blue sky,
Her eyes filled with tears and she started to cry.
"All I want is to be loved!" Cried she,
Then the prince took her in his arms and hugged her tightly.

The prince became the princess' best friend,
And slowly, her heart, he started to mend.
It took a long time, but when her heart fully healed,
The prince took her hand and before her, he kneeled.
"Know that you are loved by me,
For I fear I have fallen in love with thee.
I did not mean to fall in love with you,
But I did, and I love you, I do."
The princess looked down at the prince somewhat shocked,
Then she said calmly, "My heart has come unlocked...
I have fallen in love with you too,
But I was so afraid to tell this to you.
You have unlocked my heart; you have reached your goal.
My heart is no longer in pieces, it is now fully whole."
"And I will not use you, I will not cheat you, I won't lie to you too,
Know that I love you, and my love for you is true."
Said he,
As he looked up at the princess with glee.
So ends this poem as they shared loves first kiss,
And they lived happily ever after in eternal bliss.
